MARYLAND MEP KICKS OFF INAUGURAL ‘CHEERS TO GEARS’ EVENT AT MOBERN LIGHTING COMPANY IN JESSUP, MD
Series of Manufacturing Networking Events To Be Held as a Part of MD MEP’s Make it in Maryland Program
Columbia, Md. – On Tuesday, May 12, 2015, Maryland Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MD MEP), the premier resource and problem solver for Maryland’s manufacturers, held the first ‘Cheer to Gears’ event at Mobern Lighting Company in Jessup, MD as a part of its Make it in Maryland Program. Mobern Lighting Company is a Maryland-based manufacturer and distributor of energy efficient lighting fixtures and solutions.
These exclusive events are held specifically for MD MEP’s Make it in Maryland members and rotate to different Make it in Maryland member facilities each month. ‘Cheers to Gears’ provides an informal setting for companies to network, make B2B connections and learn from their Maryland counterparts. The agenda includes a facility tour followed by networking, food and beverages. Following the plant tour and networking last night, guests were treated to food and spirits graciously supplied by Twin Valley Distillers, RavenBeer and Mission BBQ - all Maryland based establishments.
“Our first ‘Cheers to Gears’ kickoff event was a great success,” said Mike Kelleher, COO/CFO of MD MEP. “Getting both newly established and long time existing manufacturing companies in the same room creates a network of manufacturers working together to make Maryland manufacturing stronger. The events were put together in response to the manufacturers that continue to share with us the value in seeing what other companies are doing. These events will provide this opportunity on a monthly basis as one of the many benefits to being in MD MEP’s Make it in Maryland program”.
“The entire Mobern team was delighted and honored to have hosted the inaugural Make It In Maryland ‘Cheers to Gears’ kickoff last night sponsored by the MD MEP” proclaimed Bob Claire, Mobern’s General Manager, at the outset of the event held last evening in Mobern’s state of the art showroom/training center. He added. “It was invigorating to host other Maryland manufacturer’s like Tenax, Tulkolf, Mid-Atlantic RF Systems and iDim and discuss issues unique among us including advancing initiatives at the state and local level to encourage businesses to source products and services from other Maryland based businesses.”
Bill Stone, Mobern’s President, said that Mobern has been working for years on increasing its exposure throughout the State but that until now, the support has been ineffective. He hopes through regular networking and support of organizations like MEP, businesses can help one another grow and prosper for years to come.
Claire expressed optimism that future Cheers to Gears events with even greater manufacturer participation could help galvanize Maryland manufacturers. “Finally”, he said, “manufacturers could have a voice throughout our State.”
The June ‘Cheer to Gears’ event will be held at Centreville Manufacturing in Centreville, MD. If you are interested in learning more about the Make it in Maryland program or applying to become a member, please contact Tyler Burford at email@example.com or visit www.mdmep.org/makeitinmaryland.
